In times of stress, we all long for that moment of relief, when the weight of our worries lifts and we can finally breathe easy. This feeling of deliverance is like a deep sigh of contentment, signaling to our bodies that the danger has passed and it is safe to begin healing. However, not all moments of relief are created equal. Some are temporary respites, like when a rabbit escapes a chasing dog, while others are more profound and transformative. These different types of relief can manifest in various ways, from the release of hormones to the emotional catharsis of a good laugh.
But relief does not necessarily mean the trauma is truly gone. It can be a temporary reprieve, like being bitten by a small dog on a leash – the danger is still there, but you’re not constantly worrying about it. True healing and restoration only begin when we confront our stress head-on, rather than burying our heads in the sand. So whether it’s a natural, emotional, practical, or transformational form of relief, it’s essential to recognize the importance of each and put in the necessary work to truly overcome our traumas and find peace of mind.
